About

Rob Kehl

Principal Advisor at NZCAT, based in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Background

Rob Kehl is NZCAT's Principal Advisor, with more than 20 years across security and defence: eight years in physical security and law enforcement with the US Air Force, and twelve years since in governance, risk, and compliance, security engineering, and consulting, including roles at Sygnia and Cognizant. That experience is now applied directly to Aotearoa New Zealand's mid-market.

Focus areas

  • Proactive security posture and architecture reviews, hands-on across network, infrastructure, cloud, mergers and acquisitions, applications, and AI and LLM systems.
  • Global incident response: containment, eradication, recovery, and hardening.

Why NZCAT exists

NZCAT is built around one advisor, not a bench of staff to delegate to. Every finding, every recommendation, and every engagement carries Rob's own name and professional reputation, not a firm's. That is a deliberate constraint, not a staffing gap: growth that traded personal accountability for headcount would defeat the reason NZCAT exists.

Involvement

Rob co-hosts the Hamilton ISIG chapter, is a member of NZITF, and mentors people moving into the security field. He also lectured part-time at university level for around five years, applying international experience to the governance and regulatory realities specific to Aotearoa New Zealand organisations.
